Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15th, 1929. He was a very smart boy and graduated high school at only 15 years old. He had been at the top of his classes and been on the debate team. Once when he was going to a different school for the debates, he and his teacher had to take a bus. Since the bus was not crowded they sat in the front, but then more and more white people came and the bus driver asked them to move back. They both refused at first so the bus driver cussed and threatened them and, only because Martins teacher started crying, they moved back. This only fueled his drive to fight for freedom and segregation for black people. So after two years of being a minister and going to collage at the same time, Martin graduate at 18. He went to Morehouse College and had a full time job as a minister. He later went to Pennsylvania to attend Crozer Theological Seminary, a school with blacks and whites. The people there seemed to be friendly, there was one white boy who did give him some trouble but the later became friends. He graduated with honors and moved on to another school where he met his wife and they married in 1963. His days of debating seemed to be over until a woman named Rosa Parks was arrested for sitting on the wrong side of a bus. E.D. Nixon who was another activist called Martin and asked him to help with a one day boycott. So the next day no blacks rode the bus and it was a complete success! But, it didn’t stop there. It lasted until black people could finally sit wherever they wanted, which was a huge success for civil rights. Martin started getting more involved in things like this even when there were threats. One time not long after the boycott someone bombed his house. Luckily, no one was injured or killed during this, and he kept protesting for black rights. Then in 1963, Martin gave his "I have a dream," speech. This was one of the biggest things he ever did and people all over America today know what he said. Just 5 years later, Martin was killed in Memphis, Tennessee. So, sadly he never did get to see black people and white people cooperating as well as the do today, but without him there would be no segregation at all.
